Ocean Jasper is a trademarked name for a multicoloured stone from Madagascar, recognized for its distinctive spherical or orb-like patterning. Although long described as an Orbicular Jasper, recent research shows that it is actually a form of Chalcedony. When thin sections of Ocean Jasper are viewed under a polarized light microscope, the stone reveals fibrous Chalcedony spherulites—its signature flower-like formations—surrounded by grains of Chalcedony and Quartz.

Ocean Jasper is found exclusively in northwestern Madagascar, within the Analalava district of the Sofia region in the former Mahajanga province. There are two known deposits located roughly ten miles apart, both accessible only during low tide along the coastline. Because of this remote setting, early mining efforts required transporting the material by boat. Today, it is collected through shallow surface mining, typically no deeper than the depth of an average house foundation.

Due to its limited locality and the difficulty of accessing the original deposits, high-quality Ocean Jasper has become increasingly sought after by collectors worldwide. Each piece showcases its own natural patterns, making each crystal truly one-of-a-kind.
